These days it is very common to have people from two different generations mix in the same workplace.
Are there more advantages or disadvantages to this situation?
Nowadays, it is quite prevalent that younger and older generations work together in the same companies. This essay will argue that despite there being some benefits of improving the economic condition of the company by mixing older and younger employees, the disadvantage of having conflicts among employees far outweighs any advantage.
The main benefit of having a mixture of two different generations in the workplace is that the employer can make more profit. This is because the enterprise can use older workers’ experiences and the potential of new employees, which can eventually lead the firm to boost its production. For instance, it has been found in a recent survey by The Sunday Times that workplaces, where new and experienced employees work together, are 62% more likely to increase their sales than those who do not. However, this combination sometimes put an adverse effect on the company.
The major drawback of mixing older and younger workforce in a company is that this can lead to disputes between workers. This is because older employees consider themselves superior to new workers because of their vast experience. This results in them having conflicts with their colleagues, which is really harmful to the company’s growth. For example, at my previous workplace, older and younger employees used to have different opinions on certain projects. Consequently, the company lost many of its clients because of our company’s internal disputes. Therefore, I believe that all employees should be suggested to have an intimate relations with their co-workers.
In conclusion, the disadvantage of having conflicts between younger and older employees in the same company far outweighs the supposed benefit of increasing the company’s profits.
