Canada’s PNP program is one of the most popular immigration programs for skilled workers. It provides an opportunity for skilled workers to immigrate to Canada and work in their field of expertise. Skilled workers can apply for the Canada’s PNP program through one of three streams: Express Entry, Self-Employed Persons or Provincial Nominee Program.
Canada’s new immigration policy will make it easier for people to relocate there. Canada recently announced that it is planning to increase the number of permanent residents annually by up to 500,000 people by 2025.
Under the Provincial Nominee Program, provinces can select their preferred immigrants. IRCC still makes the final decision on whether a candidate can become a permanent resident of Canada. In 2022 the program invited a total of 83,500 new permanent residents but the Immigration Levels Plan for 2023-2025 shows an increase of up to 105,000 new permanent residents in 2023. PNP targets for 2024 and 2025 will be 110,000 and 117,500 respectively. That’s why by 2025, it is projected that one fifth of the total number of new permanent residents will be admitted through a PNP.
What is the Canada’s PNP Immigration Program
The Canada’s PNP Immigration Program is an online application program, which is considered as a point system. The points are given based on factors such as age, level of education, knowledge of French or English and work experience. Immigration is primarily the responsibility of the federal government, but provincial governments also have a role to play. It’s all outlined in the Immigration and Refugees Protection Act (IRPA).
Under the PNP, the provincial governments decide which skills will be most beneficial to their employment sector and then invite skilled applicants to apply. If a candidate accepts a provincial nomination, meaning they would be moving to the province to live and work, they are then eligible for permanent residency under IRCC.
The PNP is target increased steadily because the feds and provinces believe it benefits economic development. Outside of the urban centers and provinces with high immigration, its an effective tool to promote economic growth. When people get permanent residency through Express Entry benefits of immigration, such as a robust workforce and diverse communities, do not reach areas – like the prairies, the Atlantic provinces, and the territories.
A provincial nomination is an additional 600 points to your score in the Comprehensive Ranking System. It may also be helpful to explore other ways of obtaining permanent resident status who do not have enough points in Express Entry.
