Great news for students interested in studying in Australia! The Australian government has taken a firm stance against visa fraud involving student visas. This move is particularly beneficial for students from Punjab, who invest a significant amount of money in pursuit of a promising future.
As reported by the news agency, Education Minister Jason Clare, Skills Minister Brendan O’Connor, and Assistant Minister for Immigration O’Neill have promptly announced actions to enhance the credibility of Australia’s international education sector. These measures aim to curb unscrupulous practices by education agents who entice international students, especially those from distant regions, with lower course fees from lower-quality universities. The authorities will also put a stop to commission-based incentives for education agents, ensuring international students are not exploited.
Moreover, the government will introduce monitoring mechanisms to ensure international students are genuinely attending their educational programs and not misusing their student visas for work in Australia. According to the Australian Financial Review, data from the Department of Education revealed a significant rise in the number of student visa holders in Australia, reaching 660,765 by the end of June, exceeding 203,000 from the beginning of 2023. Additionally, the Department of Education’s September report disclosed that the economic value of international education to Australia in the calendar year 2022 was 26.6 billion Australian dollars ($17 billion), positioning it as the fourth-largest export for the country, following coal, iron ore, and natural gas.
