– let your landlord know about your leaving,
– thank your landlord for his/her help
– tell him/her about your friend.

I am writing in regard to end the contract of your apartment where I am staying from the last two years.
My contract with the current employer is going to end by the end of this month. Therefore, I am thinking to move back to my home country, even my employer is ready to increase the length of this contract. I am suffering from homesickness and I believe it is best to spend time with my family.
I would like to express gratitude for the assistance that you gave me during my entire stay. When I arrived here in London, you helped me to get familiar with this town. I remember when I was sick, your family came forward to look after me.
One of my friends, Mike, is coming here to join a construction company. He is a humble man and I would request you rent this flat to him. I can assure you that you will never regret renting this apartment to him.
