Another reason is that it not feasible to have a sense of reading while studying on a computer screen which can be obtained on reading physical books. As a result, complaints regarding eyesight weakness and severe headaches are common. For instance, eye specialist doctors say that the people who regularly stare at the screen for an extended period their eyesight is more likely to be affected than those who do not.

Therefore, it saves a lot of their time and efforts as compared to find this in books available in libraries. Wikipedia is a prime example here. One can type and search for anything on this website and is freely available for users.
Secondly, governments spend a significant part of their budgets on maintaining these libraries which can be saved. This means that authorities have to pay to employees and need to maintain the infrastructure of these amenities. In the absence of these buildings, this money can be spent on other public facilities. For example, in a recent study, Cambridge University found that the UK government spend one-tenth of their budget on public libraries, whereas only ten thousand of students visit these libraries every year. Hence, in the absence of these public facilities, this fund can be used elsewhere.
In conclusion, public libraries are no more needed in this technologies era because vast information available on the internet is easy to access, and the government can use their money on other public departments.
