Some people think that one of the best ways to solve environmental problems is to increase the cost of fuel for cars and other vehicles.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
It is often argued that increasing the price of petrol and diesel for motorcars and other vehicles is the most effective method to combat environmental issues. This essay completely disagrees with this viewpoint because it would raise the price of other items and encouraging the use of electric vehicles would significantly solve atmospheric issues.
Firstly, the increase in fuel price is not a better solution to control atmospheric pollution because the price of many other goods will automatically be escalated. This is because the transportation of all day-to-day things from one place to another depends on fuel because it is necessary to drive vehicles. Therefore, accumulating the cost of petrol and diesel would ultimately raise the price of necessary products, such as groceries, medicine, and apparel. For instance, it is estimated by the Sunday Times that just a 5% increase in fuel price will increase the price of groceries and other things by 20%.
Secondly, a better approach to tackle environmental issues is that the state should promote electrical vehicles. This is because electric technology is eco-friendly because electric vehicles do not produce carbon dioxide; however, this technology is a little more expensive yet. Therefore, if the government provides a subsidy on electric cars, more people will be able to use these types of vehicles. For example, in India, the government now motivates citizens to incline towards electric cars by giving a subsidy on these cars, which is significantly reducing environmental problems.
In conclusion, the rise in fuel price for vehicles is not an appropriate way to curb environmental problems because increasing the cost of fuel would escalate the price of necessary goods and the use of electric vehicles is the best way to decrease the pollution level.
