Should young people follow older people’s examples or it’s good for them to challenge older people’s opinions and thoughts.
Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
It is often argued that youngsters should see their elders as their role models, while others believe that it is better for them to not accept their parents’ ideas and opinions. Although challenging old people’s instructions can make the youth independent, this essay believes that they can learn from the experience of their elders.
On the one hand, there are those who believe that young individuals can learn to live independently by opposing their parents’ thoughts. This is because if they continuously follow the commands of old people, they cannot come out of their comfort zones, which is extremely imperative for them to learn new skills and find new avenues. For instance, it has been found in a recent study by Cambridge University that students who were regularly instructed by their parents and grandparents were 62% less likely to independently learn something new and innovative than those who did not. However, I disagree with this viewpoint because of the following reason.
On the other hand, it is thought that youngsters should follow their parents’ opinions because they are more experienced. This is because it is very easy for young people to get motivated by their elders’ accomplishments and learn from their mistakes, which can be helpful for them to achieve their goals. For example, I always take suggestions from my father who is a well-established businessman and his guidance has proven useful for me throughout my life. I believe this school of thought is preferable because parents always guide their offspring to become successful and responsible individuals.
In conclusion, although young individuals should challenge their parents’ instructions to independently learn something new, I believe that it is better for them to follow their elders’ examples because they have more experience.
