Measures have been put in place to improve road safety by reducing the speed limits. Some people believe there are better alternatives.

It is often argued that preventive measures, such as decreasing the speed limit, have been put into practice to ensure road safety, while I believe reducing the number of vehicles on roads is a much better idea to reduce traffic accidents.
On the one hand, supporters of prior viewpoint contend that overspeeding is one of the leading causes of increased road casualties. As vehicles are just machines, and when we drive them at high speed, a minor error of judgement or equipment failure can lead to death. Therefore, driving vehicles at controllable speed can prevent many road casualties. For example, a recent study by the Hindustan Times reported that a 25% of the road accidents happened in 2018 in India, were because of overspeeding, and these statistics are getting worse by each year. However, driving too fast is not the only factor that has made roads unsafe to drive.
On the other hand, decreasing traffic, especially in densely populated cities like Delhi, is a preferable school of thought to lower road accidents. This is because an increasing number of vehicles makes driving more challenging, and a small mistake can result in a collision. Therefore, encouraging people to travel via public means of transportation will decrease the number of private cars on roads. For instance, in the list of the most number road casualties per city, Delhi and Mumbai both are on the top because of huge numbers of vehicles on their roads. I believe this viewpoint is an effective way to enhance road safety.
In conclusion, although a reduction in speed limit is a good way to ensure road safety, I believe reducing the number of vehicles on roads is a much better idea to improve road safety.
