The government should spend money on railways rather than roads.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Many people believe that the lawmakers must allot a higher budget to build railway tracks as compared to highways construction. I substantially agree with this statement and will first discuss how rails help to control pollution, and then talk about how tracks are one time investment.
The trains carry a number of passengers from once place to another. Due to this, congestion on roads can be reduced because , otherwise people are going to use their own conveyance , or public road transport which can result in increased air pollution levels. Recent study conducted by European transportation management stated that the area where rail transport means were available , people were willingly transport on rails and the pollution levels were fifty percent better than areas where people used vehicles for travelling. Thus, it is clearly evident that rail transport can help to curb pollution.
The maintenance of train tracks is negligible as compared to income generated by trains. This is because, on roads regular maintenance is required because of heavy traffic and in case of snow, extra machinery is needed to clear them. As a result , huge sum of money is spent on fast-way maintenance. For example, Government of India prefers to build train tracks as compared to roads because of its lower cost of maintainability. Therefore, it is evident that building tracks help government to save their financial budget.
In conclusion, I affirm my viewpoint that governments must consider to finance towards expanding railways reach because to control air adulteration due to vehicles and financial profit to government.
