In some countries, children under 16 years old are not allowed to leave school by law and get full-time work.
Is this a good or bad thing? Discuss your opinion.
In many nations, the government does not permit school-aged children to leave their studies and work full-time employment before the age of 16. Although allowing under 16 individuals to work may inculcate in them the value of money and hard work, this essay believes that restricting them to work before 16 is a good thing because they can focus on education.
On the one hand, there are those who think that young children should do any full-time job before the age of 16. This is because this early work experience can teach them about the efforts need to earn money and there is no substitute for hard work. Therefore, they should start work soon. For instance, it has been found in a recent study by The Sunday Times that adolescents who started their careers at a very young age were 42% more likely to save up some money and willing to put more effort. However, I disagree with this viewpoint because, at that age, children should only study.
On the other hand, it is better to not allow young people to leave school and work because it will affect their education. This is because if they start working in full-time employment at a very young age, they may not be able to focus on their education because they have to complete their job tasks. Thus, they should only concentrate on their studies, which is very crucial for their overall growth. For example, my cousin started his job at the age of 14 and now he has very less knowledge because he did not complete his study.
In conclusion, although allowing young children to work before 16 teaches them about money and hard work, I believe that it would negatively affect their education.
