It is commonly seen that these days, an increasing number of individuals live away from their families, particularly because of work and study, as compared to the past. This essay believes that this is a positive development because it enables people to become independent and it helps them learn money management skills.
Firstly, residing alone allows young adults to become independent. This is because they have the responsibility to look after everything on their own, such as food preparation and laundry, whereas when they are with their families, their mothers have to do these household chores. As a result, young people can become self-dependent by living alone. For instance, it has been found in a recent study by Cambridge University that young employees who lived far away from their families were 62% more likely to perform household tasks than those who did not.
Secondly, living away from family members teaches people the value of money. This is because when individuals live separate for their work or study, they have to manage all their living expenses, such as accommodation, traveling and food. This results in them utilizing money properly by spending it only on necessities, rather than wasting on unnecessary things. For example, I used to live in another city while graduating and this experience taught me money management. Consequently, I started using money in moderation by cutting-off unnecessary expenses.
In conclusion, living alone due to work or study is better for individuals because they can become self-dependent and can acquire money management traits.
