To what extent do you agree or disagree?
It is argued that during leisure time, instead of watching television, reading is the best option for people to improve the thinking process and linguistic skills. This essay agrees with this statement because reading helps to think in a better way and it can enhance the command on a language.
Firstly, reading, whether it is for fun, is the best way to raise the intellectual level for an individual. This is because when people read articles and books published by renowned authors, it changes the thought process of people and enhances the level of understanding about events happening around in the world. This results in they start thinking critically. For example, a recent study Cambridge University found that people who prefer to read books in their free time were more likely to have a much better intellectual level.
Secondly, reading actually helps people to have a firm grasp on the language. This is due to the fact that books and articles use a range of vocabulary, while reading they come across a different types words that are suitable for a particular situation. In day to day life, people can use different words in their writing and speaking which they have learnt while reading. In conclusion, reading for pleasure is the best habit that people should develop because it develops people intellectually and people can improve their command on the language.
