Some people think it’s better to choose friends who always have the same opinions as them. Other people believe it’s good to have friends who sometimes disagree with them. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
It is argued that it would be best for people if they always make friends with people who think in a similar way, while others refute this and say that sometimes disagreement is required from true friends. While people who have friends of the same opinion may have a better relationship, I believe that it is necessary to show disagreement towards best mates opinion.
On the one hand, when people have friends who have similar thinking, it helps them to have an ultimate bonding with each other. This is because there is a mutual understanding between them as they have similar thinking on every issue and there are not any chances of conflicts among them. For example, a recent study by Cambridge University found that friends who had similar viewpoints had a better friendship as they never went into an argument because they had the same opinions on every issue. However, I do not agree with this viewpoint because of the reason elucidated below.
On the other hand, when the best friends have some disagreement on certain topics, this is a positive sign for friendship because this shows that they care about each other. This can help best mates to find shortcomings of each other and change their thinking if they are wrong. To illustrate, I am always open to accepting my criticism from my friends because this helps me to improve my intellectual ability. Therefore, I agree with this viewpoint because it is the duty of a true friend to point out the shortcomings of their friends.
In conclusion, although friends having similar thinking can have a much better relation, I think that sometimes disagreement is necessary to point out friend’s mistakes to show they care about them.
