Some people think that the main factors influencing a child’s development these days are things such as television, friends, and music. Others believe that the family still remains more important.
Discuss both views and give your opinion.
It is argued that, nowadays, there is a great influence of the TV, their mates and music they listen to on children’s growth, while others say that family have more influence. While it is true that children can learn many things from what their parents do, I believe that children are more influenced by the things they watch at the screen and their mates do due to these seems attractive at that age.
On the one hand, it is widely accepted that children inherit habits from their parents. This is because they spend maximum time with family and therefore, children learn numerous things from their elders. To illustrate, Indian people like to live in joint families, and most children living in such families adopt the habits of their parents or grandparents. However, I do not agree with this school of thought because the reason elucidated below.
On the other hand, young ones are mature enough to distinguish between right and wrong, therefore, they are attracted by the glamorous life shown at the screen. They want to live like their favourite celebrities do and try to imitate in real life which is not possible at all. For example, the singers in Punjab are heavily criticized by activists that they are ruining the lives of youth by promoting gun culture in the society. This promotion of guns has resulted in many young ones caught up having illegal firearms. Therefore, I agree with this view because there is a great influence of material shown on a screen.
In conclusion, there is no doubt it possible that children can learn numerous things from their elders, I believe that people at a young age have more attraction towards glamorous things.
