In schools and universities, girls tend to choose arts while boys like science.
What are the reasons for this trend and do you think this tendency should be changed?
It is argued that boys like science why girls gravitate towards arts in high schools and colleges. The main reason behind this phenomenon is a common myth that girls are not good at science as compared to boys. I believe this trend should be altered because female students are performing better than male students in academics these days.
The principal reason why I girls choose arts and boys select science is the mentality about girls that they are inferior to boys in science. This is to say that most of the scientists are men, and this creates an inferiority complex in girls in this context about science. For example, in a recent survey by the Times of India found that 40% of female students said that they had chosen arts because they think science is not for them. However, I believe this trend should be changed because of the following reason.
Many of us think that boys are much better in Science compared to girls. However, I believe this is just a myth because these days, girls are academically far better than boys in every subject. This can easily be seen by looking at the academic results of top-rated universities. Therefore, the common misconception about one gender superiority in one particular subject would vanish in the future. For example, in a recent study by the Sunday Times found that among all the toppers of prominent universities, 60% are girls.
In conclusion, although some think boys like science and girls choose arts because of their proficiency in that area, I believe this trend would change in nearby future as girls are also performing equally good in Science as boys.
