There was a time when people only shopped out of necessity, but these days shopping seems to have become a new form of leisure activity. People do not appreciate the value of money anymore.
To what extent do you agree with this view?
In the past, people went to the market to buy necessary products only, however, nowadays shopping is considered as a free-time activity and people do not care while spending more money in the market. This essay agrees with this statement because credit cards have reduced the value of cash and the price of many items has been reduced significantly
The main reason why people do not care about money is that credit facilities are easily available to everyone. This is because there are many companies in the market which provide credit cards without much verification and people can pay the bill on the next month of purchase. Therefore, many people have become less conscious of money. To illustrate, a recent study by Cambridge University found that people who have credit cards spend more while shopping.
Another reason behind this is that the retail price of numerous items has been reduced up to a certain extent. This has been feasible due to less production cost and the benefit of this is transferred to consumers to boost sales. The less price attracts people and they tend to spend more while shopping even many items they buy are unnecessary. For example, when I go shopping, and I buy a few items on every visit which are not required at home because I see attractive prices.
In conclusion, the value of money has been significantly reduced in the public while they go shopping because people use credit cards to purchase items and the cost of many items has been reduced.
