It is argued that an ever increasing growing online shopping may result in many shops in urban and rural areas to shut down. This essay disagrees with this statement because online retailers sell products at a higher price and people cannot check the quality of a product until they receive it.
The primary reason why local shops will not close because online website administrators sell products at a significantly higher price as compared to shops in the local market. This is because they have to cover the transportation cost to deliver the product at customer’s doorstep. Therefore, they charge more from customers. To illustrate, a recent study by Cambridge University found that nearly 60% online websites charged more price as compared to the local shop from people for the same product.
Another reason shops in the local market will remain open in the future is that many people prefer to check products beforehand. This is because online websites can show products virtually at a screen which can never match the experience of visiting a shopping mall by themselves. This attitude of people will keep the local shops open in towns. For example, I prefer to purchase my attire from shopping centres because I prefer to try clothes before I make payment at bill counter.
In conclusion, it is not fair to say that online market will close down the local shops because online shopping is costly as compared to going out in the market and many people want to see the product before they pay for the item.
