Some people think that public health within a country can be improved by the government making laws regarding nutritious food. Others, however, think that health is a matter of personal choice and responsibility. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

It is argued that improvement in peoples’ health can be made if the government imposes strict laws regarding the intake of healthy food, however, others say that people should be free to choose eating habits. While stringent laws can result in lower consumption of unhealthy food, I believe that it is important people should be responsible for their health when eating.
On the one hand, the supporters of the prior viewpoint say that on making laws about food which restrict people to the intake unhealthy food will lower consumption of such food. In this way, people will be less prone to diseases associated with unhealthy food eating, consequently, people will see improvement in their health. For example, a recent study by Cambridge University found that people who opted to eat a home-cooked meal over-processed food were found to have better health. However, I do not agree with this school of thought because of the reason elucidated below.
On the other hand, the advocates of the latter viewpoint opine that people should have the freedom to choose their way of eating. This is because they want to enjoy their life and taste all available foods in the market whether these are beneficial for their health or not. To illustrate, one of my friends is a food lover and he likes to enjoy different types of foods and wherever he goes, he enjoys the local food in that area. Therefore, I believe this school of thought is preferable because some people want to taste every kind of dish.
In conclusion, although the government can make an act to reduce the intake of unhealthy food, I think health matter should be a choice of an individual and restrictions on some food should not be applied.
