Some parents believe that reading books for entertainment is a waste of children’s time. They think that their children should read only serious educational books.
What is your opinion?
It is often argued that children should only read academic books in their leisure time rather than wasting time on entertaining books. This essay completely disagrees with this viewpoint because reading for pleasure triggers creativity in school-aged children and it will act as a stress buster.
Firstly, people should allow their offspring to spend some time after class reading books for entertainment. This is because when kids read something out of their syllabus, which is much more interesting, it actually helps in developing their imagination and improving their cognitive ability. Therefore, it is a good school of thought to permit children to spend some time learning something entertaining. For instance, it has been found in a recent study by Cambridge University that students who were reading books for entertainment after their school hours were 62% more likely to be creative than those who did not.
Secondly, insisting kids study educational books increases their mental pressure. This is because they already spend 7-8 hours on a daily basis at school learning academic materials, whereas they get very little time for rejuvenation. Therefore, allowing them to devote leisure hours to some interesting context will mitigate stress. For example, my nephew, who is in 10th standard, spends 7 hours at school. Thus, we permit him to read whatever he likes in his free time to decrease his mental pressure.
In conclusion, reading books for pleasure after school time can be beneficial for children because it helps them become creative and decreases their stress.
