Some parents believe that a child should not waste time by reading entertainment books, instead they should spend time to read educational books only.
What is your opinion about this?
Many parents think that children must not waste their time reading comical books, in fact, they must spend time reading their academic books only. I opine that reading non-educational books by children is not a wastage of time because it aids in enhancing the language ability of teenagers and they can instill a habit of reading books if they are allowed to read other books.
Firstly, reading different types of books helps children to improve their linguistic ability. This is because these books are written in a very simple language so that it should be completely understood by children of all ages. This will result in children reading books with a curiosity and achieve a firm grip on the language. For example, a recent study by Cambridge University found that children who read non-educational books were more likely to have a good command on the language.
Secondly, reading any book builds a habit of reading among children. This is due to the fact that these books are designed to engage children for a long period. However, if children are forced to read only academic books, they may feel bored and get away from reading books. To illustrate, during my childhood, my parents allowed me to read comics and magazines. This helped me to have a deep interest in reading books.
In conclusion, I think that reading books not related to study by teenagers is not a waste of time because it actually helps children to have a firm grip on the language and it enables children to build a habit of reading books.
