It is argued that government agencies should only be allowed to carry out scientific studies. This essay agrees with this statement because private companies can exploit people and these companies hide their study from the public until they find it profitable.
The main reason why only state-owned agencies should be allowed in research work is that private research organisations exploit people when they acquire a patent for a particular study. This is because they charge an exorbitant amount for the service they provide using their discovered product. This puts enormous pressure on people in term of finance. For example, in this ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, some private companies have developed a vaccine for the virus but they do not share their work with others and charge a huge amount of money for vaccination from people.
Another reason for this is that private companies do not reveal their research work to the public until they are confident that they would earn profit for their work. This is because there is no obligation to disclose their research work in the public. However, in government-owned research labs, it is mandatory to disclose all ongoing and finished study work because these agencies use taxpayers money. To illustrate, a recent study by Cambridge University found that nearly 20% of research works by private research labs were not made public in the last 5 years.
In conclusion, scientific research should be carried out by state agencies because private labs work for their goods only and many of these agencies only make their study public if they see any profit.
