In recent years, there has been a rise in the popularity of second-hand clothing amongst younger generations.
Why is this happening?
Do you think it’s a positive or negative development?
These days, the purchase of used clothes amongst youngsters is on the increase. This essay believes that the primary reason for this is that the youth can able to buy branded clothing at an affordable price, and this is a positive trend.
The principal reason for purchasing second-hand clothing is that young people can afford branded clothes. This is to say that adolescents generally have very little pocket money for their study material and other necessities, and their craving for new branded apparels cannot be fulfilled with that much money. Therefore, they are keen on buying used clothes, which allow them to have a sense of contentment. For instance, a friend of mine often has to survive on a small amount of pocket money, so he always purchases a second-hand attire of a brand at a very low price.
This is a positive development because it aids to minimize waste. This is because if the youth do not buy used apparels, it is very likely that these items are going to be thrown away into the bins. This can result in augmenting the waste of clothes, which would eventually lead to pollution. It, therefore, can be said that it is better to recycle second-hand clothes. For example, a recent study by WHO found that a 20% decrease in used clothes has been seen in the last five years due to repurchase of them by youngsters, which allows significantly to drop the pollution level.
In conclusion, the use of second-hand clothing is gaining ground amongst younger people because it allows them to spend less money to buy branded apparels, and this trend helps alleviate pollution.
