Culture and traditions change from generation to generation.
Why does this happen? What can be done to change it?
It is argued that cultural and traditional values are being changed from generation to generation. This essay believes that the media is the main reason for this phenomenon and the primary solution is to encourage young people to follow their own culture.
The principal reason why people are inclining towards others’ languages and religions from generation to generation is because of the media. This is because young people watch videos and movies on TV and the internet, which generally depict western culture. As a result, the new generation is adopting the culture and languages of western countries by getting influenced by them through the media. For instance, in India, more than 75% of adults wear western clothes and speak English because most of the television shows are based on western societies.
The most obvious solution is to motivate young individuals to follow their local culture and tradition. This is to say that by telecasting more traditional shows on TV and allowing young adults to visit museums and historical sites free of cost, the state can impart valuable knowledge amongst youngsters about their rich history and other cultural beliefs. This would result in them following their family culture and speaking their mother tongue. China is the prime example, where the government encouraged young people by telling them about their cultural significance and now, most of their citizens speak Chinese, regardless of their age.
In conclusion, culture is changing from generation to generation because of the influence of western lifestyle through TV and the internet; however, this issue can be solved by motivating young individuals to follow their own cultural and traditional values.
