Some people believe that students should be taught international news as a subject at school. Others feel that this would be a waste of valuable school time.
Discuss both views and give your opinion.
It is argued that world news should be discussed in the school as a class subject, however, others believe that discussion of this would waste precious school time. While it is important to give more emphasis on regular school subjects, I believe that students must be aware of what is happening around the world.
On the one hand, people who say that teaching international affairs would be a waste of time because there are other important subjects to be taught in the classroom. This extra subject will leave less time for school to teach regular subjects and consequently, it may lead to lower grades of students in the final term exams. To illustrate, a recent study by Cambridge University found that schools who emphasis to learn other things, such as worldwide news, music and so on, their students are more likely to have lower grades as compared to other institutions. However, I do not agree with this school of thought because of the reason elucidated below.
On the other hand, a subject on worldwide news makes students aware of international affairs. This helps students to widen their horizon and will lead to them having a much better understanding of world events. To illustrate, during my school days, before the start of classes, a bulletin of international news was shared with students to make the children aware of worldwide events.
In conclusion, although the introduction of a more subject will reduce the time for regular school subjects, I reckon that this subject would be enhance students intellect in international affairs.
