International students in Canada are eligible to work more than 20-hour 

International students are eligible to work more than 20-hour full-time while studying.  Until December 31, 2023, students can work full time as there are no restrictions on number of work hours.

What is rules for work for international students in Canada?

Students are allowed to work 20 hours per week on campus or off campus. This gives them opportunity to get the practical experience of work culture in Canada.

The temporary work-study program provides an opportunity for students to continue working while they are studying. It also allows employers to hire young people with valuable skills and experience, and gives them an incentive to stay in Canada. 

Latest changes and Why?

Last month IRCC made temporary changes, students can now work up to 20 hours a week if they are studying full-time in Canada. This temporary measure is introduced to help labour shortage in Canada. No restrictions on the type of employment if your study permit allows you to work on campus or off campus. From November 15, 2022, and December 31,2023, students can work full time.

You allowed to work full time? – valid study permit – studying full-time at a designated learning institution – studying and remain in satisfactory academic standing as determined by your institution; – studying in an academic, vocational or professional training program that is at least six months in duration and leads to a degree, diploma or certificate – have a Social Insurance Number (SIN)
