Skim the passage

Identify question type 

There are different types of questions asked in IELTS reading. For example, fill in the blanks, match heading, Yes No or Not given and so on.

Find Keywords 

Each question has unique information you need to find that keyword and you need to find similar word or synonym of this keyword. Locate this word you will find the answer.

Highlight keywords 

When you are reading Question and Skimming paragraph, Highlight keywords that you think might be important, for example, name of people, year, any event and so on.

Focus around keyword 

If you are able to locate keyword, carefully read around keyword and find your answer and mark your answer.

Do not spend too much time on one question 

Sometimes, during skimming we might not able to locate answer, do not waste time on that question and move on to next question.

Manage time properly

Time management plays a key role. As first section is much easier compared to 3rd section therefore, try to spend maximum time of last section. This is specifically true for General Module of IELTS.

Attempt Fill the Blanks question first 

Blanks questions are easier to understand and answers can be easily located. More importantly, answers to these types of questions always go in order.

Avoid spelling mistakes 

Spellings are important in IELTS reading, if you spell wrong, you will get zero marks for that answer even if your answer is right.

Pay attention to word limit 

If you write more words than allowed limit, you will lose marks for this. This is true for Fill in the blanks where it mentioned no more than two words or no more than 3 words.
