It is commonly seen that popular sportsmen promote many products. This essay will first suggest that targeting a huge population is the primary benefit for companies and influencing people to buy these items is a major drawback.
The main advantage for enterprises to advertise their commodities through athletes is that they can target a large number of people. This is because they are well known and are followed by many individuals around the world. Therefore, when they advertise any item, it automatically reaches a wide audience, resulting in high sales. For instance, in India, it has been found in recent research that gadgets that were promoted by cricketers had 62% more sales than others.
The most obvious disadvantage of featuring sports persons in commercials is that it unfairly encourages their fans to purchase those things. This is because when athletes promote any particular product on TV or in newspapers, their followers do not think much and lavishly spend money to get those products. As a result, it can be said that ads that feature sportsmen sway the public to purchase the advertised items, regardless of their needs. For example, my cousin follows Virat Kohli and his clothing brand. Whenever he promotes new products, my cousin always buys those things.
In conclusion, corporations can get the benefit of targeting a large proportion of population by advertising products through sports persons; however, they should not sway people to impulsively purchased things.
